IMESA BURSARY SCHEME A DEPENDANTS OF NON-IMESA MEMBERS

The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa’s IMESA Bursary Scheme’s objective is as follows:

  • To provide students who otherwise would not have been able to afford to study infrastructure engineering or any other discipline approved by the Executive Council of IMESA with financial assistance.
  • To cover the student’s tuition and books up to a maximum of R50,000.00

THE ALLOCATION OF BURSES

The Executive Committee of IMESA will decide which students are eligible for scholarships.

  • Are pursuing a degree in civil engineering or an equivalent qualification in infrastructure engineering;
  • Are enrolled full-time at an ECSA-accredited South African tertiary institution
  • Have successfully completed their first year of study.

General Information

The allocation of bursaries will be subject to the following significant conditions:

  • Each bursary’s budgetary cap and individual award amount are evaluated annually. The maximum amount a bursary student can receive is R50,000.00 for the 2025 academic year.
  • The bursary amount is due 60 days after the student receives a statement from the tertiary institution, or as otherwise agreed upon by the student and the authorized representative of IMESA as delegated by The Executive Committee.
  • The first installment is due after the student submits the following information to the IMESA Head Office:
    • A medical certificate that is acceptable.
    • Evidence of enrollment in the particular course.
  • Applications for scholarships must be submitted to IMESA by September 15 of the year prior to the intended study year.

  • Fragmented or late application structures, as well as application shapes that are not joined by
  • the expected proving documentation, won’t be thought of, and will be precluded.
  • Prior to awarding the IMESA Bursary, other institutions’ bursaries must be disclosed and taken into consideration.
  • An undersigned statement from the tertiary institution stating the student’s academic progress during his or her first year at a recognized educational institution should be included with all application forms. IMESA will not be responsible for a student’s employment after graduation (see point 2 above) but will, if possible, encourage the student to pursue a career in local government.
  • An affidavit describing the student’s financial situation and their parents’ monthly income must accompany each bursary application.
  • No bursaries will be distributed in retrospect.
  • Practical training will not receive a grant.
