Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for their Randridge location. You will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care and ensuring that patients’ medicine-related needs are met.

Minimums Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic qualification in Pharmacist Assistance
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience with Unisolv
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong English skills and a second language
  • Available to work retail hours

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of Retail/FMCG operations
  • Knowledge of a third additional language
  • Familiarity with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Dis-Chem

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and procedures
  • Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines as per guidelines from the responsible pharmacist
  • Aid in re-packaging medicines
  • Help manage and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
  • Assist in ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 as directed by an authorized person under the Medicines Act
  • Help read rand prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, and label them correctly in suitable containers after pharmacist evaluation
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally while following legal guidelines set by the SAPC.
  • Record script details correctly and confirm patient information in the system.
  • Ensure precise picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, while being aware of common dosages and significant drug interactions.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients on how to use the supplied medicine correctly.
  • Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Make sure all medications are verified for accuracy and signed off by a pharmacist.
  • Assist patients at the dispensary, with self-medication, and in the front shop.
  • Follow up with patients on script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and check on appointments.
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients.
  • Offer information to promote health among individuals.
  • Handle all necessary paperwork for accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
  • Correct any errors on scripts that have been rejected by medical aid.
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Maintain customer profiles in the system.
  • Merge profiles locally and notify UCS for central merging.
  • Pay attention to any messages on customer profiles and take appropriate actions.
  • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs and merchandise following FEFO guidelines.
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
  • Manage stock, cash, and asset control effectively.
