Key Responsibilities of the Fitter Aide
As a Fitter Aide, you will support plant engineering operations to ensure equipment availability and reliability. Furthermore, you will assist artisans with maintenance tasks while developing practical trade-related skills.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with planned and reactive maintenance of plant equipment
- Supporting repairs, modifications, and installations across the plant
- Helping to ensure optimal equipment availability for production
- Conducting mini risk assessments in your designated work area
- Maintaining cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment at all times
- Ensuring tools are stored correctly and are safe for use
- Working independently when competent and under supervision when required
- Removing and replacing pump components and pulley bearings
- Patching and assisting with conveyor belt maintenance and splicing
- Adjusting crusher gaps according to specifications
- Assisting with overhauling pumps, crushers, and gearboxes
- Installing steel pipes and greasing equipment as instructed
- Performing lock-out procedures when required
- Completing pre-use inspection checklists for tools and equipment
- Reporting defects or unsafe conditions to the Artisan, Chargehand, or GES
- Attending to breakdowns promptly and reporting to the supervisor or Control Room

Minimum Educational Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
- Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence
Advantageous qualification:
- Operative Course Certificate
