This is a unique opportunity to undergo professional police training and prepare for a career as a Metro Police Officer, serving and protecting the people of Johannesburg.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for the JMPD Training Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Hold a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Reside in the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (original proof of residence required)
- Possess a valid South African driver’s licence (minimum Code B – learner’s licences will not be accepted)
- Be aged between 18 and 35 years
- Be physically and mentally fit (a medical certificate is required)
- Have no criminal record or civil judgments involving fraud or corruption
- Be willing to undergo background, biometric, and vetting checks
- Be fluent in English
- Be able and willing to carry a firearm and wear a police uniform
- Pass a pre-training fitness assessment

Training Programme Overview
The JMPD training course runs for 18 months, comprising both theoretical and practical components. During this period, trainees will:
- Be subject to the JMPD Academy Rules and the City of Johannesburg policies
- Follow guidelines set out by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC)
- Receive a monthly stipend in accordance with City regulations
All training will be conducted at the JMPD Training Academy, under the supervision of the Public Safety Department.
What Happens After Training?
Upon successful completion of the 18-month training programme, candidates will:
- Be appointed as Metro Police Officers
- Take an official oath of office
- Be deployed to various operational areas across the City of Johannesburg, depending on service needs
