
Understand What the Programme Offers
The ECD Learnership Programme is designed to:
- Train young South Africans in Early Childhood Development
- Provide theoretical and practical education to become qualified ECD practitioners
- Offer a nationally recognised qualification (NQF Level 4 or 5)
- Help you gain valuable work experience at preschools or daycare centres
Check If You’re Eligible
Before applying, make sure you meet the minimum requirements:
- South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35 years old
- Grade 12 (Matric certificate) or equivalent
- Interest in working with young children
- Unemployed or not currently studying full-time
- Willing to commit to the full duration (12–24 months)
- Some programmes may require a criminal background check and/or health screening
Prepare Your Application Documents
You’ll need the following:
- Certified copy of your South African ID
- Certified Matric certificate
- Updated CV (Curriculum Vitae) – professional and accurate
- Motivational or Cover Letter – explain why you’re passionate about early childhood development
- Any other qualifications or reference letters (if available)
Make sure all certifications are valid and issued within the last 3 months.
Apply for the Learnership
When you find a programme:
- Carefully read the job/learnership advert
- Follow the instructions (some require online forms, others prefer email submissions)
- Submit your documents before the closing date
Prepare for Interviews or Assessments
If shortlisted, you may be:
- Invited for an interview
- Asked to complete a basic skills assessment
- Required to provide proof of residence or banking details (for stipend purposes)
Be punctual, dress appropriately, and show enthusiasm about working with children.
Wait for Feedback
Recruiters usually respond within 2–4 weeks of the closing date. If you don’t hear back, keep applying to other programmes.
