
Job Title: Waste Water Collection Assistant
Job Purpose
To support the team leader in maintaining the wastewater collection system, including the clearing of sewer blockages and assisting with general maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Clear sewer blockages efficiently and safely
- Excavate and backfill trenches using manual tools such as shovels, pickaxes, rakes, and rammers
- Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from the plumber’s vehicle
- Operate water pumping equipment as required
- Assist with aligning and fitting water pipe sections during repair work
- Provide tools and equipment to the supervisor during maintenance activities
- Clean the work area after task completion
- Ensure tools are cleaned, packed, and loaded after use
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
- Clean the depot area and wash the plumber’s vehicle when needed
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to perform physical labor duties
- Basic literacy
- Relevant experience in wastewater network maintenance is an advantage
- Physically fit, with no history of back problems
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must be willing to have fingerprints taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (at applicant’s own cost)
- Availability to work shifts, standby duties, and overtime when required
